When it comes to joining a theme camp at Burning Man, there are countless possibilities — so thank you for considering Camp PORTA and Hel’s Diner.

You don’t need a camp to have an incredible Burn. But when you join PORTA, you become part of something built by people who believe that the most powerful experiences happen when we stop watching and start creating.

A Decade of Radical Artistry

2027 marks eleven years as a placed theme camp and thirteen years as a creative collective.

What has kept PORTA alive and evolving year after year isn’t luck. It’s us — the builders, dreamers, musicians, artists, cooks, engineers, performers, and makers who show up and contribute.

Camp PORTA exists through shared effort, shared cost, and shared magic.

Every structure we build, every meal we cook, every light we hang, every beat we play, and every fire we ignite becomes part of the experience we give back to Black Rock City.

Our 2027 Theme: Spellbound

Spellbound is about the moment something captures you.

A sound you can’t walk away from.
A flame that makes you stop and stare.

For 2027, Camp PORTA embraces the idea that art can be an enchantment — not something you simply look at, but something that draws you in and transforms you through participation.

At PORTA, the spell isn’t cast by a single artist or a single installation.

We create it together.

Hel’s Diner, our legendary two-story art car, returns with fire, music, food, shade, and plenty of surprises — an evolving mechanical beast designed to pull people into its orbit.
The PORTA Stage brings live music, DJs, performances, and unexpected collaborations that turn ordinary moments into something unforgettable.
Interactive art and immersive spaces invite you to touch, build, dance, paint, experiment, and become part of the artwork itself.
Fire, light, sound, and movement transform our little piece of the playa into an environment that feels entirely different after dark.

Life in Camp PORTA

PORTA isn’t a place where you simply arrive, set up your tent, and disappear for the week.

We participate.

We cook together. We build together. We dance together. We solve problems together. We create the infrastructure that allows everything else to happen.

From our kitchen and communal meals to our power grid, sound systems, art, shade, and flame effects, nearly every part of PORTA exists because campmates contribute their time, skills, resources, and imagination.

Whether you’re on the build crew, helping on playa, cooking a meal, running an event, maintaining infrastructure, supporting the art car, or keeping the camp clean and functioning — you are part of the experience.

And then there’s the food.

At Camp PORTA, the dinner table becomes its own kind of magic. Our camp chefs bring flavors from around the world — Persian, Thai, Mediterranean, German, and beyond — creating communal meals that bring everyone together after another day in the desert.

What Your Camp Dues Support — and Why They Matter

Camp PORTA thrives because of you.
Your dues don’t just keep the lights on — they keep the spirit, art, and community of our camp alive year-round. Every dollar, every hour volunteered, and every act of participation fuels the creative engine that makes Camp PORTA one of Burning Man’s longest-standing and most vibrant placed theme camps — now celebrating our 11-year anniversary.

This isn’t a service being provided — this is how we function together as a nonprofit creative family. Camp PORTA exists because of the time, energy, and generosity of its members. Your contributions of both money and effort are what allow us to create, maintain, and evolve everything we bring to the Playa and beyond.

Your Dues and Participation Help Support:

Theme Camp Placement – A dedicated, officially placed spot with great location and infrastructure.
Year-Round Planning & Coordination – Meetings, logistics, fundraising, and design work that happen long before the Playa dust.
Our Art Cars: Hel’s Diner, the Spelloon and the Cone – Ongoing maintenance, fuel, registration, insurance, transportation, cleaning, repairs, and storage.
On-Playa Fuel – Gasoline and propane for the art cars and camp generators.
Camp Trailer – Storage, transport to and from Playa, and truck fuel.
Common Dining Area – Shade structures, couches, tables, and a shared community hub.
Lighting – Camp lighting and upgrades for safety and vibe.
Private Camp Shower – Includes gray-water management and drainage. (Bring your own water — 2 gallons per shower. No dumping or bodily waste in the shower.)
Starlink – Internet connection in camp.
Bubble Machines & FX – Bubble juice, smoke machines, and atmospheric art.
Camp Meals – Daily brunch and daily gourmet dinners, plus our traditional Sunday potluck.
Note: These meals are gifts from our members, not a service. Bring your own plate, bowl, and utensils.
Full Bar – Stocked and shared with campmates.
Potsticker Gifting – Over 5,000 potstickers gifted to the Playa community nightly, 6–8 PM, Sunday through Friday.
Camp Kitchen – Our own kitchen with refrigeration, freezers and ice, plus stove, propane, BBQ, and clean-up guidelines.
Camp Generators – Powering the kitchen, lighting and camp infrastructure.
Camp Flags, Signage, and Paint Supplies.
Nevada Food & Event Permits.
Storage Bins & Organization.
Expanded Shade Areas – For dining, lounging, and community gathering.
Camp Stickers & Branded Signage.
Sound System Maintenance – Upkeep, repairs, and upgrades (because something always breaks!).
Website – Building, upkeep and maintenance of campporta.org, plus hosting.
Camp PORTA App – Upkeep and maintenance of our own app, campporta.app.
Social Media – Running our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok pages to keep the community connected.
Crew Support – Food, hydration, and supplies for setup, teardown, and Leave No Trace (LNT).
Post-Burn Cleanup – Dusting and restoration of the art cars, kitchen gear, and camp infrastructure.
Nonprofit Operations – Year-end taxes, filings, and compliance for our 501(c)(3) organization.

WHAT WE REQUIRE FROM YOU

Burning Man requires a great deal of effort, planning & work on your part and on ours.
Respect everyone!
Know the 10 principles.
Sign up in the Camp PORTA app — create your account and complete your camp registration.
Camp Donations – Cost Share (tax-deductible, non-refundable & non-transferable). Donate here.
Volunteer for at least 2 shifts — pick your crew and duties in the app.
Enter your logistics info in the app. If you are coming in a group, only the driver needs to fill this out and list everyone in the group. Please list what you are bringing and the size (yurt, shade structure, tent, RV, trailer, car, etc.)
You are required to pick up after yourself and LEAVE NO TRACE. If you bring something for decoration or for your own comfort like a bike, chair or table, you must take it back. (If you fail to pick up after yourself you will not be invited back next year.)
NO CARPETS. DO NOT BRING CARPETS. They cause too much debris.
We have no common garbage cans, and for good reason: if you take back what you bring, there is no need for garbage cans.
Dedicate at least 2 hours to walk around camp before you depart to pick up MOOP. Your camp area MUST BE SPOTLESS and raked. We have rakes on site for you to use.
Bring everything you need for your stay and be sure to bring something to share with the community. For one week we live in a gifting community — radical self-reliance is key and gifting is an integral part.

LEAVE NO TRACE • RAKE YOUR CAMP • TAKE YOUR GARBAGE BAGS WITH YOU.
If you traveled from far and don’t want to take your bike back, find the on-playa bicycle donation center and donate your bike there. Do not leave your bicycle in our camp for us to deal with.

Power, Generators & Fuel

Camp PORTA runs its own power grid, available to campmates for an additional fee based on usage — ask us for details. We also have Starlink internet in camp. Please DO NOT under any circumstances unplug anything from the camp generators to connect your device. If you are bringing your own generator, tell us ahead of time so we can place you where you won’t disturb your neighbors. Bring extra fuel for your generator needs and read the fuel safety guidelines.

Camp Donations (Dues) & Cost Share • $600 Early Bird

Camp dues/donations are tax-deductible, non-refundable and non-transferable. Your donations are put to use right away. The camp dues are how we share the cost of making our camp happen. Making the camp donation guarantees you a spot with Camp PORTA. You still need to obtain a Burning Man ticket.

The $600 early bird cost share ends 12.31.2026. After that, suggested donations increase monthly, reaching $1,250 by August 2027.

Burning Man is about 10 days from start to finish — longer if you come in early and stay late with the crew. At $600, that’s only $60 a day, and you help create an amazing camp that offers so much to both the individual and our community: daily brunch and gourmet dinners, a full bar, our own kitchen with refrigeration and ice, a private shower, Starlink, shaded lounge areas, and our art cars — Hel’s Diner, the Spelloon and the Cone. We make all of this happen by sharing the cost.

DGS Tickets (Directed Group Sale)

Directed Group Sale tickets are made available to camp core members first. If you join our build, tear-down or LNT crew in 2027, we will help you get access to purchase a ticket and vehicle pass outside of the general sale. This means you are guaranteed a ticket you can buy without waiting in the online queue. DGS tickets are only available while supplies last, and only after you have joined camp and made your cost share donation.

ALL CAMP DONATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 2027 AT 12:00 NOON

Unless we are full before then. After that we will no longer be able to process donations or guarantee placement. Donations can be made by Zelle, Venmo or PayPal on our Donate page.
